Random Thursday Junk

Well this was a lovely, pain-in-the-ass, storm we had, wasn't it? I managed to slide home from work Tuesday afternoon right as it was all getting into full swing. Fortunately for me, I was off yesterday and today so I really didn't have to deal with all the bullshit. I can't stand working in severe weather. All I do is deal with knuckleheads wrecking their cars when they shouldn't have been out on the roads in the first place. But enough of me ranting about weather and idiots.

So Kolzig is out for three weeks with an injury. That blows. Brent Johnson is a decent back-up, but his play isn't always very consistent. I've seen him stand on his head and make some incredible saves, and I've seen him play like he was still sitting on the end of the bench with his helmet off. We're playing Tampa Bay tonight. We'll see how he does. I was happy to see that we signed Donald Brashear to a one year extension. I dig seeing him on the ice and even though he's far from a scoring threat, I like that he can keep the other teams honest. And by that I mean he can pummel the shit out of opposing team's goons.

I enjoy having days off from work during the week (like today). It's cool that if I need to go to the store, or anything like that, it won't be swamped with people. It's nice that I can sit here in my jammies playing loud music while everyone else I know is at work. In case anyone gives a shit, I'm jamming out to Carbon Leaf's "Learn to Fly." Good tune. Check it out. Of course, for as much as I'm digging the day off, I actually do have to go to work this afternoon. Our monthly supervisors meeting is scheduled for today. It's been scheduled on my day off for the past three months. I think the Chief hates me. I'll show him, though. I'm taking next week off. That'll teach him. Yeah, sure, whatever helps me sleep, right?

In other news, I'm going through the process of adopting a dog. Or at least I think I am. I had a "phone interview" and submitted my (4-page!) written application a couple of weeks ago. I haven't heard from anyone with the organization I'm going through, but I know they got my application because they cashed the "donation" check I enclosed with my app. According to their website, once they get my application they check my references and then they schedule a home visit. After the home visit they get together to determine if I'll be a good candidate to adopt. If I'm approved, then I meet with someone who'll match me up with available dogs they feel are best suited for me. Then I go see the dogs and see how it goes from there. It's a lot of stuff to go through (although I do kind of understand they want to screen people carefully), but I think it would be easier for me to adopt a Chinese kid. Hopefully I'll hear something from them soon. I'd hate to think that they took my money and ran, 'cause, you know, that would be wrong.
